It is the first week of our new term for Skill for Life and Work, our school leaver programme where students can gain a Level 1 Qualification in Catering, Hair, Beauty & Barbering, Joinery or Plumbing, Childcare or Computer Technology alongside their Essential Skills in Numeracy, Literacy and IT.
This course will prepare them for a Level 2 course which is equivalent to GCSE`s and Level 3 which is Equivalent to A-Levels.
The first week for students is getting to know each other, their tutor and the college. It is also about gaining insights into their skills and abilities so we can help direct them along the right path for their chosen career and support them with the next step into employment.
Our Childcare students were learning how to make playdough, the ingredients and how to make it into different crafts for the different seasons as this will be a big part of the creative learning within Nurseries.
All the skills they will learn will directly relate to what they will be doing in their work placement, this is why Vocational Courses are so beneficial to young learners wanting to gain true insight, knowledge and skills to grow their career.
If you are interested in a career in childcare or are currently working in childcare but don`t have your Level 2 or 3 then give us a shout.
Our Skills for Life and Work course is an introduction course which will help you to progress into full time employment and an Apprenticeship where you can complete your Level 2 and Level 3 in your chosen career, gaining your qualifications while you work at no cost to you or your employer just a few hours once a month to attend a class.
