Hair and Beauty Learner speaks to Pamela Ballentine to promote Mental Health Awareness on UTV Live tonight at 6pm!

Tune in to UTV Live at 6pm this evening as Springvale Learning’s Hair and Beauty Learner Aine McNeice will be speaking to Pamela Ballentine to talk about her upcoming performance at the Grand Opera House and to promote Mental Health Awareness Week.

Aine chats with Pamela about her personal experience with depression and self-harm following a period of serious bullying at school when she was aged between 13 and 16 years old. Realising she needed help, she talked to her best friend about how she was feeling and immediately felt comforted and supported.

Recognising that speaking up really helped her deal with what was happening, Aine then talked to her mum and teachers. Aine’s courage in speaking up meant that she could access support from a counsellor and also from her friends, family and school.

Counselling helped Aine to take control of her feelings and to understand what was happening to her. She finally began to feel that her depression was under her control and that she could see light at the end of the tunnel. She really believes that talking is the best form of therapy and continues to speak to her mum and support network about how she is feeling.

For the past five years, Aine has also been part of the Action Ability Drama Club which has helped her to de-stress and step away from her worries when she steps upon the stage or into the studio for rehearsals. Aine will play a lead role in an upcoming production ‘Stay’n Alive – So I am’ at the Grand Opera House on Friday 19th May 2017, which interprets some of the different obstacles that young people face in real life, including bullying, self-harm and depression.  Aine’s co-learners at Springvale, Aoife McDermott and Steffy Cyriac are also part of the cast for this important show, which also features the Motown Sensations.

Everyone at Springvale Learning are very proud of the three girls, and everything they have accomplished, and wish them all the best for the big night. We will be there in force to cheer them on!
