Access All Areas at the Clonard Solemn Novena
Springvale Employment and Learning Solutions have been supporting the Clonard Solemn Novena, producing planters for the neighbouring community, as well as welcoming Novena visitors to Springvale for tea, coffee, buns and chat.
Our young learners from Digital Media and Computer Technology were also welcomed as ‘special friends of the Clonard Novena’ by Rector Noel Kehoe to create, produce and edit several short films and interviews to capture the atmosphere at the nine-day event.
Learners were given a special opportunity to film behind the scenes throughout the event, with an ‘access all areas’ pass, to capture the highly technical and smooth operation that delivers all aspects of the Novena’s activities.
Training for Success Digital Media and Computer Technology learners spent time taking photographs and video footage speaking to visitors, volunteers, and clergy as they congregate daily to pray. This has been a unique opportunity for Springvale learners to gain valuable experience and training as they captured imagery throughout the event.
Digital Media learner Conor McDonnell, has a keen interested in radio and TV work speaks about his experience interviewing at the event, and said:
‘It has been very interesting and a great opportunity for me to interview, live, the people at the Novena. I am can be quite shy and this has helped me feel more confident in myself. I have a radio show on Raidio Failte and I am used to presenting a radio show which is pre-recorded so this has been a good way for me to practice interviewing in front of the camera and thinking on my feet. We met some very interesting people over the last few days. I have enjoyed being here and will certainly give interviewing in front of the camera another go.’
Sincere thanks are extended to the organisers of the Clonard Novena for this opportunity to be part of such an important event, especially to Brendan Dinnan and Fr Noel Kehoe, for their kindness to our learners.
