Apprenticeships
The Department for Employment and Learning’s ApprenticeshipsNI programme offers a range of apprenticeship opportunities to existing/newly recruited employees, of all ages. As an employee, you can play a vital role and reap huge personal and professional benefits by investing in your own training and development through the apprenticeship programme. You can become a more valuable asset to yoyr employer through increased productivity and increased loyalty. Apprenticeships can take between two to four years to complete depending on the level of study, with apprentices working to complete industry-approved Level 2/Level 3 Apprenticeship Frameworks. These are designed by the Sector Skills Councils and Industry Representative Bodies. They lead to externally accredited National Vocational Qualifications.
They set out the relevant national occupational standards to be achieved by the apprentice and cover the skills, knowledge and understanding which relate to the particular occupational area.
We will enter into an agreement with you, as the employee and your employer to work alongside more experienced staff, to learn your trade. We would carry out the ‘off-the-job’ training, usually on a day release basis or on site where you work. A Personal Training Plan is discussed and agreed between you, your employer and ourselves as the training provider. The Training Plan will detail the progression route toward the agreed qualifications and completion of a full apprenticeship, so that everyone involved knows what will be achieved.
Apprentices must be contracted with a Northern Ireland - based company to work a minimum of 21 hours including time for ‘off-the-job’ training. As an apprentice you will be paid the going rate for the job which is agreed with you and your employer before you begin your Apprenticeship.
By participating in ‘on-and off-the-job’ training you will complete and achieve a full apprenticeship framework, acquiring the knowledge and skills to be competent in your chosen career. As your Training Partner contracted by the Department for Employment and Learning, Springvale Learning will deliver the ‘off-the-job’ training element and organise accredited qualifications and assessment for you. We will ensure that your training is always relevant and tailored to the your needs and the needs of your sector by people who genuinely understand what you do.
You can become an Apprenticeships whether you are an existing employee or you are newly recruited. You can be any age. Specialist Support Services are available for you if you have an auditory, visual or other physical disability.
To assist with the apprentice(s) training, the Department for Employment and Learning undertakes to pay the full costs of your ‘off-the-job’ training for the duration of your apprenticeship. It also offers your employer incentives which range from £500 to £1,500 depending on the occupational area, the level of study required and when you have completed the full framework.
Essential Skills will be provided on the job free of charge for you if required.
By investing in yourself through the Apprenticeship programme you help build Northern Ireland’s reputation as a region of highly skilled workers. As an individual you can reap a range of personal and professional benefits, including improved employability and earning capacity. You will keep abreast of new technology in your industry and have a more secure future with better career options.
